Bartolo Mascarello is one of those cult wineries that deserves the hype. Maria Teresa Mascarello is an artisan, a producer who doesn't follow trends but rather stays true to what her legendary father built. Based in the village of Barolo, she makes a range of wines, including the Dolcetto and Barbera featured here, in addition to Freisa, Langhe Nebbiolo, and just one Barolo.
This example of Dolcetto is not onyl a reference point—it’s also always a favorite. The grapes come from two vineyards, Monrobiolo di Bussia and Rué. It is fermented in a large concrete vat and aged for around nine months in large Slavonian oak.
Dolcetto has a classic combination of freshness and soft tannins. It awakens the palate and is so versatile with food. It’s the perfect red when you need a wine with freshness as well as structure.
